STAR Hero Journey Reflections/ Questions

 STAR Hero Journey Reflections/Questions

Team meeting #1 Reflection:

    After meeting with the team on zoom for the first time I felt confident in knowing that we can work together to make an engaging and fun STAR Hero Journey story. The team members were very positive, kind, and sounded like they are all hard workers. Going forward we plan to continue communicating and helping one another so we all can be successful.

Team meeting #2 Reflection:

    In team meeting two, I facilitated the 5D Cycle of Appreciative Inquiry when explaining what the Hero's Journey is. I said "what is Hero Journey," I am not sure if I used it properly. I used the first box to explain the meaning of the Hero's Journey however I didn't finish talking about the rest of the boxes. I should have gone over the Cycle and explained the inquiry.

    Throughout the meeting the team members were very supportive and understanding. I am not comfortable yet with the AI generation and they were patient with me. I have only done it once before this meeting. I said during the meeting, "this is my first time using AI!" and another team member said, "you got this." Everyone in the team is putting effort in and that's how we grow so I believe we are on the right track to be successful.

Team meeting #3 Reflection/Review Questions:

● What are your learning expectations regarding;

a) Personal Growth: One strength from our lesson was definitely the activity that we had time for. The students enjoyed the whole idea of making something and getting to keep it. One weakness was the timing of the lesson. Also I think we could have planned better however even if we were to plan more we still wouldn't have gotten to finish due to the time. Something that I think affected the students was learning that you could make something out of wood like that. They were focused, excited, and surprised. My goal for this category is being nicer to myself because I got frustrated when we weren't able to finish the lesson and I blamed it on me. Also another goal of mine is to become more mindful about the time during a lesson.

b) Civic Engagement: We were trying to teach the different parts of a flower and what flowers need to survive. We started with the AI story, popcorn reading then we went into creating the butterfly. I believe we were doing good however I believe the objectives/topic would have made more sense to the students if we got to the rest of the lesson. My goal for this category is to maybe try different approaches next time. Meaning changing the order of the lesson.

c) Academic Enhancement: We wanted to show the students that they could create something and upload it online. So if they wanted to, they could join the media fair and they would know that they are capable of doing it. I don't think we need to rethink this however I do think we could have pushed it more throughout the lesson. My goal for this category is next time I know what I want the students to take away from the lesson and start with that so I could have enough time to explain it.

● How did your participation in this event contribute to your understanding and implementation of the TAMU-CC Teacher Educator Professional Expectations Policy? My participation in this event contributed to my understanding and implementation of the TAMU-CC Teacher Educator Professional Expectation Policy by having to communicate with other students at TAMU-CC professionally. Having to plan an activity with 5 other people was challenging however everyone was professional, flexible, and participated in the meetings so that made it easier.

● In what areas of the Policy do you feel you would need to set goals for yourself if involved in future trans disciplinary collaboratives? The area I need to set a goal for myself to become more proficient in is advocacy consciousness. We did not have an alternate activity if a student could not do it. I feel like in the future I need to have my lessons more diverse and flexible in case a student is not able to complete the activity. Another area I need to set a goal for myself to become more proficient in is advocacy enactment. The goal is to include more diverse cultures, identities, and perspectives throughout lessons. In doing so I believe the lesson will be more inclusive and engaging.
