TEK: Science K.10(B) Identify basic parts of plants and animals
Objective: Students will be able to identify parts of the plant by using the Nearpod
Resource tools: The students need a Chromebook to access the Nearpod. Click here to view Nearpod
Plan: Students can design different flowers for their garden using the Nearpod. Then we will learn and identify the different parts of the flower using the Nearpod. There will be examples/ models provided within the Nearpod.
Standards:
4b: Design authentic learning activities that ask students to leverage a design process to solve problems with awareness of technical and human constraints and defend their design choices. This activity aligns with this standard because the Nearpod will challenge the students to think on their own to activate prior knowledge and solve a problem when presented with a question. There is a drawing portion in the Nearpod that the students can choose how they would like to create their plants and discuss it.
5c: Use a variety of instructional approaches to help students frame problems in ways that can be represented as computational steps or algorithms to be performed by a computer. This activity aligns with this standard because the Nearpod allows for the students to learn how to use the Nearpod and the different steps that the students have to take to get to the end of the lesson. The lesson contains drawing, questions, a video, and a 360 virtual reality activity.
2a: Nurture a confident, competent and positive identity around computing for every student. This activity aligns with this standard because Nearpod can create a positive identity about computing. Students can learn/ do different things within a Nearpod. By having students interact with the different activities within the Nearpod, the student may gain more confidence in themselves and in using computers.

I love the idea of having students create their own flowers. I have a similar activity but they will be able to use dominos to create their favorite flower! I like the idea of not having the students just draw out their favorite flower and add in different techinques.
ReplyDeleteI love your idea with Nearpod it keeps them engaged! I actually just made a Nearpod about the plant life cycle in another class we both can use at Metro if you would like. I have a similar activity with Kinder instead they will create a digital art using Canva whiteboard over the life cycle. Great job.
ReplyDeleteI have never used Nearpod before and it seems like a really fun idea to create different flowers using it. Your TEKS seems very broad so this activity would work very well since its open to interpretation. I would love to give this a try once you get your lesson figured out! Great job!
